AnotherWay Now Recommends: Brave Girls

We recommend: Brave Girls, by Ellie Walton and Yashaswi Desai with Tanisha Christie
‘Brave Girls’ is a beautifully shot and deeply moving documentary that captures three young women in India attempting to find balance between their own drive for education and society’s wider gender roles.

Some films just stay with you, don't they? This is one of our favourites.
We’ve had the honour of showing Brave Girls in cinemas and community venues around the world, and more recently, online. A pandemic won’t stop these girls from fighting for education in their rural communities, and we will always support them.

This film tackles women’s rights, controversial Indian politics, self-harm, and the role of men in achieving human rights for all. We meet the children, teachers and parents all wrapped up in this transitional time of aspiration and self-determination. Brave Girls reminds us of why we do this work, and fills us with inspiration time and time again.
