Women's Safety: The Facts
We are increasingly being called on to organise events highlighting women’s safety across the world
We asked our team to name some of the statistics that have stuck with them during our work.
Here are just a few:
97% of young women in the UK have been sexually harassed (UN Women UK)
40% of teen pregnancies in 15 year old girls involve the fathering man being aged 20- 29 (NIH)
1 in 2 women have experienced sexual violence other than rape in their lifetimes. (Rape Crisis)
1 in 5 Women have been raped (Prevent Connect)
1 in 2 transgender people are sexually assaulted in their life (Prevent Connect/)
1 in 3 women have experienced physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner (WHO)
It is estimated that only 10% of rapes are reported. Of those, only 2% of reported rapes are false (Sarah Pierson)
Women with disabilities are 3 times more likely to be physically abused or assaulted compared to able bodied women. (Now.org)
Every 3 days, a man kills a women in England. A statistic that has remained unchanged for more than a decade. (Open Access Government)

12- 17 – 15%
18- 34 – 54%
35- 64 – 28%
65+ - 3%
